Villages Together report August 2015
Local Trust have released £48,746 (half of our 2015-2016 budget) for our Project Action Groups, all resident volunteers, to progress our community Plan.
Woolavington Estate Project
A meeting with residents and representatives from Woolavington Parish Council, Sedgemoor District Council, SHAL Housing Ltd, Homes In Sedgemoor and Police will be held on Tuesday 18th August in the Communal Hall.
There will be a "bring your own" picnic on Thursday 27th August, preceded by a litter pick around the estate.
Social Activities for Older Residents
A free Senior Citizens Buffet Lunch and Musical Entertainment at the 37 Club on Friday, 16th October is being planned, with local and external organisations such as Age Concern, Sedgemoor Lifeline, Somerset Choices and others who assist older persons being invited. This will give older residents the opportunity to gain information on clubs and activities available to them in both villages as well as support services.
Youth Activities & Facilities
The Partnership approved funding for provision of a youth shelter to be located on Woolavington Playing Field, as stated in our Plan. This will need to be sited to avoid conflict with any proposed development of the Pavilion and play areas. Children will be involved with preparing the site, where practicable, so that they take "ownership" of the shelter.
Community & Sports Facilities
The Partnership discussed the currently available facilities, all of which need improving. Alan Sharp and Simon Langley are to meet with Julie Cooper for more information.
Planting & Village Entrances
Groups from both villages have held a walkabout to identify areas in need of attention and compiled lists of ideas to submit to all the local authorities for approval and to obtain the necessary licences.
Bridleway, Footpath Improvements
Lack of progress with the ROF site is hindering our plans for safe pedestrian and cycle access between our villages. We have maps showing current Rights of Way that the team can use. Volunteers have yet to get together to formulate planning a way forwards.
Villages Together has been asked to fund the provision of cabinets for Defibrillators supplied and maintained by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust ( 1 for Puriton, 1 or 2 for Woolavington as required).
