Villages Together Report September 2015
Social Activities for Older Residents
The Partnership discussed reduced or subsidised fees for Over 60's groups who meet regularly in community buildings. An Over 60's Buffet Lunch and Musical Entertainment at 37 Club on Friday, 16th October is planned to give older residents the opportunity to gain information on activities and support available to them.
Youth Activities & Facilities
Somerset Rural Youth Project will be working with FLARE (Woolavington Youth Group) and Puriton Youth Club to determine how to augment existing arrangements. There will be detached youth workers who will engage with youngsters in an effort to get them to take "ownership" and responsibility for any new equipment provided, in an attempt to combat vandalism.
Community & Sports Facilities
Provisional talks between our Parish Council representatives and Sedgemoor District Council have been held to discuss the Facilities Strategy and Delivery Plan 2013 – 2027. More people are needed to form the group to assist with selecting projects that are within our remit under our Big Local Plan. It was agreed that funds should be released for test holes with a report by a contractor to assess what needs to be done and the cost to rectify poor drainage of Woolavington Playing Field.
Planting & Village Entrances
Puriton Update – the Parish Council had approved proposals for enhancing the entrance at Hall Road with a bench, planters etcetera, the group is awaiting decisions on licences, permissions for planting bulbs and availability of free bulbs. There are no identified areas for tree planting that are not close to homes.
Woolavington Update – work to smarten up village signs, planting trees etc. at the Causeway entrance – the village sign and flower trough being destroyed, presumably by a vehicle, the Parish Council to tidy the notice boards & rotate the sports field signs to the correct direction. Woolavington WI have offered to paint the bus shelters in Higher Road and Lockswell with funding from Villages Together and the Parish Council plus any sponsorship from local suppliers that could be obtained. This was approved.
Designs for new village signs were under way. Signs to combat dog fouling were also discussed.
Villages Together will fund the provision of cabinets for defibrillators supplied and maintained by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (1 Puriton, 1 Woolavington) and the cost of a second defibrillator with cabinet in Woolavington.
